PSPE is proud to recognize Michelle L. Hinds, PE, as Young Engineer of the Year. Criteria for selection as PSPE Young Engineer of the Year includes: Be age 35 or under as of January 1; be a Registered Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training; PSPE membership preferred but not required; Scholastic achievements; Technical society activities; Technical papers and patents; Professional society activities; Engineering experience and accomplishments; and Civic and humanitarian activities.
Michelle has a BS in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and an MS in Engineering Management from Robert Morris University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida. Michelle is a Project Manager for Construction Services at SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been with SAI for 14 years starting as a transportation construction inspector and now providing construction management for heavy highway and bridge projects ranging from $800,000 to $120,000,000. Michelle has provided construction management and inspection services to many clients, including PennDOT, PA Turnpike, Allegheny County Department of Public Works, The Sports and Exhibition Authority, the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Washington County Planning Commission, Westmoreland County Department of Public Works, City of Pittsburgh, and various other local municipalities.
Notable projects Michelle has worked on include the SR 19-A63 project, which involved the SPMT move of the Shaler Street Bridge (she served as scheduler); the SR 601 bridge over the PA Turnpike in Somerset (served as Project Manager); the Lower Hill Redevelopment (former Civic Arena Site) where she served as Project Manager; the South 10th Street Bridge Rehabilitation and the Hulton Bridge Replacement. Michelle also works in conjunction with SAI’s design department building pre-bid construction schedules and performing constructability reviews. Michelle is an active member of WTS Pittsburgh Chapter and the Chartiers Valley Hockey Club.
