SUMMARY:PSPE Valley Forge Chapter | East Penn Manufacturing Tour
DESCRIPTION:East Penn Manufacturing | Plant Tour & Technical Presentation \nFounded in 1946 by WWII veteran DeLight Breidegam Jr. and his father in a small Pennsylvania creamery\, East Penn Manufacturing began as a modest operation rebuilding batteries amidst post-war material shortages. The company’s flagship brand\, Deka\, was born just a year later through a partnership with engineer Karl Gasche—its name a creative portmanteau of “DeLight” and “Karl.” Over the decades\, the business transitioned from a local rebuilder to a global powerhouse\, remaining a family-owned entity that now operates one of the world’s largest single-site battery manufacturing complexes in Lyons Station\, PA. Today\, the Deka brand is synonymous with diverse energy storage solutions\, ranging from automotive and marine batteries to massive industrial power systems\, all while maintaining a pioneering focus on closed-loop recycling and environmental sustainability. \nWhere: East Penn Manufacturing (102 Deka Rd.\, Lyon Station\, PA 19536)\nWhen: Wednesday\, March 18th\n5:15 – 5:30 PM Arrival\n5:45 – 7:00 PM Intro\, presentation and plant tour\n7:00 PM Final questions an wrap up\n7:00PM-8:00PM Optional post-event networking at Snuzzles* *Cost for dinner/drinks not by PSPE\nCost: PSPE Member $0\nRSVP by: Friday March 27th to Ben Foster at: vfc.pspe@gmail.com\nOr directly on PSPE VFC Facebook Event *Limit – 50 people maximum

SUMMARY:Introduce a Girl to Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Inspire a girl’s future. Be a role model. \nIntroduce a Girl to Engineering\, or Girl Day\, is a time when volunteers\, educators\, and others act as role models\, facilitate engineering activities\, and show girls how engineers change our world. \nDiscoverE’s research found that this simple formula helps girls develop an interest in engineering\, builds their confidence in their problem-solving skills\, and creates a STEM identity. More than just a day\, Girl Day is a movement to inspire a girl’s future by sharing what engineering is all about. \nCheck out the NEW Girl Day Planning Toolkits for Volunteers and Educators AND more downloadable resources!

SUMMARY:DEP SPEED and Chapter 105 Pilot Program hosted by PSPE
DESCRIPTION:Join PSPE and Len Bradley\, Central Region Vice President\, as he moderates a virtual update with Domenic Rocco\, P.E.\, Director\, Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands\, for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. \nAttendance is free for members and nonmembers! \nIn August 2024\, DEP announced two new initiatives to continue to speed up permitting processes “to make sure we are moving at the speed of business – without sacrificing the environmental and public health safeguards that protect our air\, land\, and water.” \nIn this meeting\, Mr. Rocco will provide an overview of the following: \n\n\n\nThe Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Economic Development (SPEED) program (HB 2310 – pg. 102). The SPEED program will provide additional flexibility by allowing permit applicants to choose to have a DEP -verified and Qualified Professional to conduct the review of the application\, while DEP staff maintain final authority over all permit decisions.  Details are included on DEP’s Permit Modernization webpage (see SPEED drop-down)\, including the Chapter 105 Invitation for Bid (IFB) which is open now.\nThe Chapter 105 Pilot Program for Individual Joint Applications started on September 1 and will help DEP continue to reduce backlogs by reducing errors in applications and cutting the total time to process an application by formalizing a pre-application meeting process between applicants and DEP prior to submitting a permit application.  Details are included on DEP’s Chapter 105 Forms\, Publications and Guidance webpage\, including a summary of the pilot program.\n\n\n\nA Q & A session between attendees and Mr. Rocco related to these programs will follow. \nRegister before 9:00 am on Thursday\, December 12\, to receive access to the webinar. Please note: This webinar will not be recorded. \nA certificate of attendance for one (1) PDH will be available if needed. A $25 administrative fee will be charged. \nQuestions can be submitted both in advance and during the webinar. PSPE will moderate. Please note that site/project-specific questions will not be considered. \nRegister Now!

SUMMARY:Back to Basics: The Use of Pronouns
DESCRIPTION:William Shakespeare wrote\, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose\, by any other name\, would smell just as sweet.” Your pronouns are as unique as your fingerprints and as important as your name\, they represent who you are and assist in understanding and distinguishing people. Depending on your familiarity with using different pronouns it may feel confusing or hard to know where to begin. Attend this virtual session to learn about the basics of pronoun use\, how to respectfully ask someone their pronouns\, best practices\, and how to be a supportive ally. \nSpeakers: Carol Martsolf\, PE\, PMP\, ENV SP\, CPTD\, LEED AP; Cory Wyffels\, P.E. \nRegister Now
