SUMMARY:Engineering Solutions for Projects with Floodplains and Streams
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by: Rachel DiDomenicis – RAD Environmental\, LLC \nEnsuring your designs are accurate helps not only your client but their downstream neighbors. Storm intensities are increasing\, and sustainable designs are the best way to ensure long-term viability. States are already looking into requiring design work to show “future readiness”. NJ and NYS have updated rainfall data and have projected sea level rise guidelines for projects. \nApproved for 1.0 PDH \nLearn More & Register

SUMMARY:DEP SPEED and Chapter 105 Pilot Program hosted by PSPE
DESCRIPTION:Join PSPE and Len Bradley\, Central Region Vice President\, as he moderates a virtual update with Domenic Rocco\, P.E.\, Director\, Bureau of Waterways Engineering and Wetlands\, for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. \nAttendance is free for members and nonmembers! \nIn August 2024\, DEP announced two new initiatives to continue to speed up permitting processes “to make sure we are moving at the speed of business – without sacrificing the environmental and public health safeguards that protect our air\, land\, and water.” \nIn this meeting\, Mr. Rocco will provide an overview of the following: \n\n\n\nThe Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Economic Development (SPEED) program (HB 2310 – pg. 102). The SPEED program will provide additional flexibility by allowing permit applicants to choose to have a DEP -verified and Qualified Professional to conduct the review of the application\, while DEP staff maintain final authority over all permit decisions.  Details are included on DEP’s Permit Modernization webpage (see SPEED drop-down)\, including the Chapter 105 Invitation for Bid (IFB) which is open now.\nThe Chapter 105 Pilot Program for Individual Joint Applications started on September 1 and will help DEP continue to reduce backlogs by reducing errors in applications and cutting the total time to process an application by formalizing a pre-application meeting process between applicants and DEP prior to submitting a permit application.  Details are included on DEP’s Chapter 105 Forms\, Publications and Guidance webpage\, including a summary of the pilot program.\n\n\n\nA Q & A session between attendees and Mr. Rocco related to these programs will follow. \nRegister before 9:00 am on Thursday\, December 12\, to receive access to the webinar. Please note: This webinar will not be recorded. \nA certificate of attendance for one (1) PDH will be available if needed. A $25 administrative fee will be charged. \nQuestions can be submitted both in advance and during the webinar. PSPE will moderate. Please note that site/project-specific questions will not be considered. \nRegister Now!

SUMMARY:Back to Basics: The Use of Pronouns
DESCRIPTION:William Shakespeare wrote\, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose\, by any other name\, would smell just as sweet.” Your pronouns are as unique as your fingerprints and as important as your name\, they represent who you are and assist in understanding and distinguishing people. Attend this virtual session to learn about the basics of pronoun use\, how to respectfully ask someone their pronouns\, best practices\, and how to be a supportive ally. \nSpeakers: Carol Martsolf\, PE\, PMP\, ENV SP\, CPTD\, LEED AP; Cory Wyffels\, P.E. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Introduce a Girl to Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Inspire a Girl’s Future. Be a Role Model.\n \nIntroduce a Girl to Engineering\, or Girl Day\, is a time when volunteers\, educators\, and others act as role models\, facilitate engineering activities\, and show girls how engineers change our world. \nDiscoverE’s research found that this simple formular helps girls develop an interest in engineering\, builds their confidence in their problem-solving skills\, and creates a STEM identity. More than just a day\, Girl Day is a movement to inspire a girl’s future by sharing what engineering is all about.

SUMMARY:Bucks County Chapter Meeting | 1.0 PDH
DESCRIPTION:Innovations in Concrete to Improve Durability and Sustainability\nPresented by: Susan Armstrong – PA Aggregates & Concrete Assoc.\nApproved for 1 PDH \nThis presentation will investigate CO2 emission from concrete\, assessing durability of sustainable levels\, as well\nas current codes\, standards and specifications as they relate to sustainability and the barriers to reducing carbon\nemissions of concrete. Options to reduce carbon emissions include optimization of total aggregate gradations\,\nuse of Portland Limestone Cement\, increased levels of supplementary cementitious materials\, and use of\ncarbon mineralization. These methods reduce the carbon footprint of concrete while providing equivalent or\nbetter durability characteristics. Studies on Freeze-Thaw Durability\, Scaling\, Chloride Permeability\, and Alkali\nSilica Reactivity mitigation have been conducted. There are still barriers in achieving this goal. Codes and\nStandards do not always keep up with the latest technologies. Prescriptive design specifications do not address\nperformance criteria required for a durable\, sustainable structure. \nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Restoring Safety and Mobility While Preserving Historic Hanging Rock
DESCRIPTION:Ms. Chia-Calabria will discuss Historic Hanging Rock which was considered a “legacy” project by PennDOT. Due to its complex nature of design\, location and permitting issues\, this project was with PennDOT for more than 20 years. McCormick Taylor was able to bring the project to construction\, completing the design in just 3 years. Our engineers and planners created a new design that reconstructed the flood prone roadway\, raising it above the 100-year flood elevation\, and installed 1\,000 linear feet of retaining wall\, and constructed a 600-foot section of the retaining wall and cantilevered roadway over the creek to move the travel lanes away from the historic Hanging Rock. This project won the American Society of Highway Engineers (Delaware Valley Section) Project of the Year 2022 for projects under $20 million. \nThis course is approved for 1 PDH. \nWhen:   Wednesday November 8th\, 2023\n5:30-6:30 pm – Social hour (cash bar)\n6:30 pm – Dinner and 60-minute Presentation\nWhere: The Plumsteadville Inn\n5902 Easton Rd\, Pipersville\, PA 18947\nCost: $40 for PSPE members\, $50 for non-members.\nPay by cash or check payable to “PSPE Bucks County Chapter”. \nRSVP no later than Monday\, November 6th\, 2023 – Include your Dinner Choice!\nRespond to Dick Ludwig\, Chapter Secretary.\nE-Mail – dick.le@comcast.net or Telephone – 215-368-3434.\nMr. Ludwig will always confirm your reservation.
