SUMMARY:Introduce a Girl to Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Inspire a Girl’s Future. Be a Role Model.\n \nIntroduce a Girl to Engineering\, or Girl Day\, is a time when volunteers\, educators\, and others act as role models\, facilitate engineering activities\, and show girls how engineers change our world. \nDiscoverE’s research found that this simple formular helps girls develop an interest in engineering\, builds their confidence in their problem-solving skills\, and creates a STEM identity. More than just a day\, Girl Day is a movement to inspire a girl’s future by sharing what engineering is all about.

SUMMARY:Bucks County Chapter Meeting | 1.0 PDH
DESCRIPTION:Innovations in Concrete to Improve Durability and Sustainability\nPresented by: Susan Armstrong – PA Aggregates & Concrete Assoc.\nApproved for 1 PDH \nThis presentation will investigate CO2 emission from concrete\, assessing durability of sustainable levels\, as well\nas current codes\, standards and specifications as they relate to sustainability and the barriers to reducing carbon\nemissions of concrete. Options to reduce carbon emissions include optimization of total aggregate gradations\,\nuse of Portland Limestone Cement\, increased levels of supplementary cementitious materials\, and use of\ncarbon mineralization. These methods reduce the carbon footprint of concrete while providing equivalent or\nbetter durability characteristics. Studies on Freeze-Thaw Durability\, Scaling\, Chloride Permeability\, and Alkali\nSilica Reactivity mitigation have been conducted. There are still barriers in achieving this goal. Codes and\nStandards do not always keep up with the latest technologies. Prescriptive design specifications do not address\nperformance criteria required for a durable\, sustainable structure. \nLearn More & RSVP

SUMMARY:Restoring Safety and Mobility While Preserving Historic Hanging Rock
DESCRIPTION:Ms. Chia-Calabria will discuss Historic Hanging Rock which was considered a “legacy” project by PennDOT. Due to its complex nature of design\, location and permitting issues\, this project was with PennDOT for more than 20 years. McCormick Taylor was able to bring the project to construction\, completing the design in just 3 years. Our engineers and planners created a new design that reconstructed the flood prone roadway\, raising it above the 100-year flood elevation\, and installed 1\,000 linear feet of retaining wall\, and constructed a 600-foot section of the retaining wall and cantilevered roadway over the creek to move the travel lanes away from the historic Hanging Rock. This project won the American Society of Highway Engineers (Delaware Valley Section) Project of the Year 2022 for projects under $20 million. \nThis course is approved for 1 PDH. \nWhen:   Wednesday November 8th\, 2023\n5:30-6:30 pm – Social hour (cash bar)\n6:30 pm – Dinner and 60-minute Presentation\nWhere: The Plumsteadville Inn\n5902 Easton Rd\, Pipersville\, PA 18947\nCost: $40 for PSPE members\, $50 for non-members.\nPay by cash or check payable to “PSPE Bucks County Chapter”. \nRSVP no later than Monday\, November 6th\, 2023 – Include your Dinner Choice!\nRespond to Dick Ludwig\, Chapter Secretary.\nE-Mail – dick.le@comcast.net or Telephone – 215-368-3434.\nMr. Ludwig will always confirm your reservation. SUMMARY:PSPE Webinar | Early Design Decisions: Priming Mass Timber Projects for Success
DESCRIPTION:Early Design Decisions: Priming Mass Timber Projects for Success\nDescription | Mass timber is a unique\, non-commodity building material\, and to lay the groundwork for success\, certain critical decisions must be made as early as possible. These decisions can have a big impact on cost and can either increase or limit opportunities later in design. There are many cases of project teams that want to realize the full benefits of mass timber\, but\, because they base their designs on traditional building practices instead of optimizing them for mass timber\, end up with avoidable price premiums. \nThis presentation will walk through early project decisions and design steps\, focusing on how to optimize projects for mass timber and how one early decision can influence others. Topics will include construction types\, fire ratings\, column grids and beam/panel spans\, acoustics and MEP integration. Completed mass timber projects will be used to illustrate the variety of viable options when navigating these key decisions. \nPresenter | Momo Sun\, PE\, P.Eng. | WoodWorks – Wood Products Council Regional Director – NY\, NJ\, PA\, NYC\, NY\n \nDate | Thursday\, July 20\, 2023 \nAgenda \n\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM| Webinar\n1:00 PM – 1:30 PM | Q & A\n\nFee \n\nMember | $15\nNon-Member | $30\n\nPDH | 1 \nRegister \n\n*This educational activity has been certified for New York State PDH. SUMMARY:Webinar | Forensic Engineering of Accident Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Forensic Engineering of Accident Analysis\nDescription | When an accident occurs\, the people involved may be unable to recall the exact events or have conflicting versions of what happened.  Accident reconstruction is a field dedicated to analyzing facts from the post-crash examination.  In effect\, accident reconstruction works in reverse\, studying the documented evidence from the scene to determine what actually occurred.  Accident reconstruction is the process of using scientific methodology to “reconstruct” an incident. \nPresenter | Harold A. SUMMARY:Bucks County Chapter PDH Event
DESCRIPTION:Bucks County Chapter | On Top of Roofing – Understanding What’s Over Your Head \nA typical roof can be riddled with tricky transitions\, especially when joining steep and low slope roofs. Transitions not only need to consider the integration of different materials\, but also the continuity of the control layers—water\, air\, thermal\, and vapor. There are a few transition areas that can be overlooked or improperly detailed in the design process and are sometimes left for the contractor to “figure out.” Some of these overlooked and underappreciated details include steep-slope to low-slope integration\, rising walls\, clerestories\, parapets\, drainage\, and ventilation. \nPresenter | Jennifer Keegan\, AAIA –Director\, Building Science\, GAF \nDate | Wednesday\, March 15\, 2023 \nPDH | 1 \n\nSchedule \n\n\n\n5:30 – 6:30 PM | Social Hour\n6:30 – 8:30 PM | Session Presentation and Dinner\n\nClick here to learn more and register. \n  \n
