SUMMARY:Powerless | A History of the Nation's Major Power Blackouts
DESCRIPTION:In the last 50 years\, almost every major city across the country has been affected by a blackout. \nThe most recent major blackout happened in February 2021. Texas suffered a major power crisis\, which came about because of severe winter storms sweeping across the United States. More than 4.5 million homes and businesses were left without power. November 9th\, 2021 marked the 56th anniversary of one of the largest electrical power blackouts in the United States – the Great Northeast Blackout of 1965. During this blackout\, 30 million people were left in the dark\, including all of New York City. Though significant government intervention and massive planning to prevent future blackouts followed\, New York went dark in 1997\, and again in 2004. \nBob’s presentation will cover the history of major blackouts in the U.S.\, their causes\, and what happens in the aftermath – including the impact a blackout has on communities. \nDiscussion Points \n\nHistory of major power blackouts and impact on society.\nWho oversees and regulates the nation’s electrical grid.\nWhy is High Voltage D.C. transmission a viable option?\n\nPresenter: \n\nBob Swayne\, MSEE\, PE | Senior Electrical Engineer\n\nSchedule\n\n\n12:00 PM– 1:00 AM | Webinar Presentation\n1:00 PM – 1:30  PM| Q & A\n\n\nMember Fee: $15 | Non Member Fee $30\n1 PDH* \nRegister today!
